Niagara Falls are like WOW!

Friday, June 18:

What to do first.. where to go first.. what to see first.. decisions, decisions..... :-)

So we decided to go across to Canada today and check out the falls from the other side. Everyone (except one) have told me that the best viewing is from Canada, sooooo I got our passports and off we went. This was our first time crossing the border by ground. We've been to Canada before but by plane. So we get to the border and the guy is really serious and asks if we have weapons and why are we visiting Canada and where are we from. It was a bit intimidating... but then we were in. So we drive to the Falls and park. The boardwalk was pretty cool... LLLLLOOOONNNNGGGG! but cool. The weather was beautiful (as evidenced by my attire).

Waiting in line to get into Canada.... Passports in hand...

Oh Canada!

The bridge we crossed to get into Canada

Publio working.... not a bad place to work.... HIS OFFICE is mobile!!! LOL

Both falls... American and Canadian... viewed from Canada

I have to say that although the view was beautiful, Canada is very touristy in that area. I felt like I was in Disney World. Every possible tourist trap was available... wax museum, amusement parks, theme restaurants, miniature golf, haunted houses, specialty shops.....

So we had run into our motorhome neighbors, Ken and Kathleen, and they had told us they were heading north to Niagara-on-the-Lake to visit the wineries and have lunch...... Hmmmmmm! I thought, that's what I want to do.... so we headed north and the scenery was just phenomenal... beautiful homes overlooking the Niagara River, lots of vineyards, parks, botanical gardens, and thennnnn the town which was super cute.
Niagara River

Damn! What a dam!

Niagara-on-the-Lake
Prince of Wales Hotel...opened 1864... beautiful building

We ended up stopping at Inniskillin Winery. We tried some wines and I bought a Pinot Gris (chilled)....

Then we drove down the road to the Country Market and bought some sandwiches and we picnicked outside the market. It was awesome. It made me think about the time we went with my grandparents (may they both rest in peace) to Napa Valley in 1988 (Publio and I) and we did the same thing. I remember we bought  a  french loaf and some cold cuts and had an awesome picnic with them. Needless to say, I got teary eyed and called my Mom.

We drove back south to the border and stopped at a souvenir shop. I'm collecting shot glasses from all the places I visit.

Then home to see Teddy and hope that he didn't have a bad separation anxiety incident, which he didn't. He's a trooper. He's the perfect traveling dog!!!

Dinner and then to bed!!!!

Happy travels!!!!
