Gettysburg... a history lesson

Tuesday, June 22:

Today was a touring and driving day. We left Elizabethtown KOA to visit Gettysburg National Military Park and then off to Charlottesville KOA. What we found at Gettysburg left us in awe. It was very emotional, to say the least. We started and ended at the visitor's center/museum/theater.

The cemetery was extraordinary and inspiring. It makes you so proud of the men and women serving our country, like our son, David. Our thanks to all of you who have served or are serving in our military.

Since we were in the RV, we decided to do the self guided driving tour.

We started at the Gettysburg National Cemetery:

We continued to the next stop... where the battle began on July 1, 1863 at the McPherson Ridge....

Next was the eternal light peace memorial, dedicated by over 1,800 Civil War veterans....

We continued on the driving tour... it was incredible to picture this area as the ground where one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War took place.

We found the memorial donated by the state of Florida...

When we were done, we headed back to the visitor's center, where we watched a movie and visited the museum. Both were spectacular. I'd love to come back for the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg battle.

Then off to Virginia!!!!

Then off to bed!!!

Happy travels!!!
